IPod and Dvd?

I have a DVD that I need to get onto my computer somehow and then onto my iPod. I'm technologically illiterate so I don't know how to do this. The DVD is on a disc and plays on my computer DVD player but I don't know where to go from there. Can someone show me an easy way to get it into my iPod, preferable for free?
