Help! somebody bought me a finch for my birthday and i dont know what to do with it!?

Wow, what a tough situation to be in. I think this is a situation best dealt with by parents. He has parents and so do you, and autism or not, it is a huge responsibility to take on a pet, let alone a bird that could live for years. It isn't okay to give a pet as a gift unless it is agreed upon by everyone. I would ask your Mum to speak with his parents or him- that takes the heat off of you. In fact, if everyone sat down and had a discussion it wouldn't be a bad idea. Then I would give the bird to someone who really can care for it. Being open and honest is the best thing. Yes, it was a very insightful and kind thing that he did, but if you are like your Mum then just explain that yes, you like birds- out in the wild! There are bound to be some hurt feelings, and you are a good friend for thinking of him, but if your friendship is sound it will weather this storm.
